Control Freak Woes

I want to begin by saying that I absolutely love Hueman WordPress theme. I’ve used this free theme for several projects over quite a few years, and it’s far and away my favorite WP theme.

That said, I have a few issues I’ve run into with the latest release, and more than a few “control freak” issues with it.  First and foremost, why can’t the Social Links present in the sidebar be coded to allow users to use any FontAwesome icon, for those instances where a given Social Media platform isn’t one that’s as widely known as others, or where maybe a user wants to link to things other than their social media in that prominent position on their site? What if I wanted to use to link to another website, or I wanted to use to link to an important and useful Google spreadsheet?

Also, the absence of a “continue reading” link on excerpts that, in spite of my years of familiarity with the theme, and with WP in general, I wound up having to jump through hoops and install a plugin that gave me the ability to craft links in the custom excerpt field? Why isn’t there an option to decide if you want the excerpt to display a link to the full post? I understand that visitors can click the title or image, where applicable, but what if I want that link there?! I’m familiar with customizing WP themes to some extent, but I do not have extensive experience in php coding. Despite hours of searching for a way to force it to display, I could not find the means to make that work without an additional plugin, which still requires me to craft custom excerpts for each and every post.

Hueman is award-winning, and there’s excellent reason for that. Again, it’s been my favorite WP theme since I discovered it years ago. I just wish a few things were a bit more customizable – particularly those “social links.”
